On Thursday 15 October, the Maison des ESSEC will host Fashion Bridges: a meeting point between students drawn to the fashion industry and graduates who have chosen to make it their career. An interview with Mana Dias (BBA 27), Head of Event, and Jeanne Levêque (BBA 26), former president of ModESSEC.
Can you tell us about the ModESSEC society?
ModESSEC is the Fashion and Beauty student society of ESSEC Business School, founded in 2012. Its aim: to bring together students with a passion for the fashion industry, whether they come to it through business or through design. Every year we stage a fashion show. We are also very active on social media, where we relay industry news, trends and the creations of students from the society and the school. We also have our own magazine.
You received a grant through the AssoRezo call for projects for Fashion Bridges. What does the project involve?
It all started with a simple observation. Among the society’s members, many students are set on a career in fashion. Yet when the time comes to take the first step, we do not always know where to begin, or who to turn to. At school, the creative industries remain a blind spot. With Fashion Bridges, we wanted to build a bridge between graduates working in the fashion industry and students hoping to join it.
Who is the Fashion Bridges event aimed at?
Our main audience is Global BBA students, the programme most strongly represented in the society. But the event is open to every programme. We want a networking format that puts conversation first. People come to find out about fashion careers and about the industry itself. The idea is that every student should come away with concrete answers to their questions: which internships to start with? How do you build contacts?
How will the ESSEC Alumni AssoRezo grant help you deliver the project?
It will allow us to put the event on a professional footing: to choose a venue that encourages people to talk to one another, and to lay on a drinks reception so the conversations can carry on. The aim is to create a high-quality, appealing atmosphere for graduates and students alike.
How can the ESSEC Alumni network help you?
The alumni network is at the very heart of Fashion Bridges. We are looking for graduates, from every programme, who have made their way into the fashion industry and, more broadly, into the creative industries, and who are willing to come and talk about their own route in: how they got there, which jobs exist, which internships open the door. What a graduate can pass on in an hour’s conversation can take a student months to piece together alone. All offers of help are welcome.
