CV Pascal Deschaseaux

Résumé

Pascal Deschaseaux is a French entrepreneur and expert in the healthcare field . The common thread of his career has been innovation and its transformation into medical and economic value. Currently, he serves as the CEO of the digital health startup NewClin and the General Manager of the OPALE Carnot Institute.

He was trained as a physician (Faculty of Medicine, Besançon University, Besançon, France) and holds an executive MBA from ESSEC business school, Paris, France. He developed additional skills in pharmacokinetics and clinical pharmacology (Faculty of Medicine, Besançon University), Finance (HEC Business School), company creation (EM Lyon Business School) and management (Management Centre Europe). After five years practicing emergency medicine at French hospitals, he started a 30-year career as a senior executive in the industrial, academic, institutional and consulting services healthcare ecosystem.

He first successfully occupied international medical and strategic marketing senior positions with several pharmaceutical and medical technologies companies: Medical Director of the International Division, International Group Product Manager, and Global Strategic Marketing Director for the Urology Franchise, at Pierre Fabre; European Marketing Director with the medical devices company Ethicon-Endo Surgery (Johnson & Johnson group); and Head of Global Strategic Marketing (in charge of various lines of medicinal products accounting for an annual turnover of around USD 4 billion including Glucophage®, then the 7th drug worldwide in value), as well as International Marketing Director for the OTC line of products, at Merck Lipha (Merck KGaA).

He was also a cofounder and the CEO of Pharmaxon, a biotechnology company developing drug candidates for traumatic CNS injuries, raising funds for its developments up to the preclinical phase. In September 2019, he cofounded and currently is the Chief Executive Officer of NewClin, a digital health company located in Lyon, France, developing a data-driven, AI-powered decision support platform aimed at improving drug clinical development and healthcare journeys performance.

Pascal Deschaseaux has a deep understanding of the onco-hematology academic research arena, thanks to several top management assignments and significant achievements in the sector. Hired by the late Prof. Bertrand Coiffier as General Manager of LYSARC, he grew, structured and digitally transformed this academic lymphoma-centered clinical research organization into an international leader in the field, running the operations of game-changing trials designed by the LYSA cooperative group . He was instrumental in the LYSA & LYSARC “French cooperative intergroup of international dimension in the field of cancer” accreditation by the French National Cancer Institute . Moreover, he contributed, as a cofounder and board member, to the creation and development of the European Lymphoma Institute, which regroups top European specialists within a network dedicated to research, training and education on lymphoma. He participated, too, in the creation and activities of the GCO (Groupes Coopérateurs en Oncologie), a network of French oncology cooperative groups conducting clinical and translational cancer research.

He has also been a cofounder and the General Manager of two Carnot institutes, OPALE (current) and CALYM , respectively devoted to leukemia and lymphoma academia-industry research partnering, over the entire R&D value chain. He took CALYM to the first rank of all Carnot institutes for partnering research revenue progression during his tenure and OPALE to the 2nd rank of Carnot funding progression among 39 institutes since its Carnot accreditation. In addition, he was a member of the board and the Vice-President of the Carnot Institutes Association, supervising its international development strategy. He was also one of the founders and an executive board member of the GLOBAL CARE Initiative and FINDMED consortia, aimed at raising awareness about the Carnot Institutes’ healthcare research partnering capabilities, respectively abroad (as an example, the organization of the French-American Innovation Day 2016 at the MIT in Cambridge, USA) and among French startups and SMEs. In 2017, upon invitation by France’s Research State Secretary, Pascal Deschaseaux, representing the Carnot Institutes, participated in the high-level group devoted to the preparation of the country’s position regarding the 9th EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.

Pascal Deschaseaux represents the OPALE Carnot Institute within the managing board of OncoSTART, a consortium engaged in cancer research and innovation, willing to promote and support French entrepreneurship in oncology. He was the General Manager of Bioméditerranée (today Eurobiomed), the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region lifesciences biocluster, creating for example the Biorezo regional series of professional networking events. He also cofounded and was the Secretary General and a board member of Orpheme (today Eurobiomed after merging with Bioméditerranée), a French bi-regional biocluster (pôle de compétivité) specializing in emerging and orphan diseases companies competitiveness.

In addition, he was appointed as the Director of Pedagogy for the MSc in Health Industry Management of Euromed Marseille Ecole de Management (today KEDGE Business School), while being the lecturer of the Pharmaceutical Marketing course. He also delivered a course on “The Future of Medicine” to the students of the MSc in Health Management and Data Intelligence of EM Lyon Business School.

Over his career, he has been providing strategic advice to stakeholders of the healthcare ecosystem, first as a Strategy Coach within the Catalyser Centrale-ESSEC organization, then as the principal of his own consulting company, PDE CONSEIL. He is also a non-executive board member of Nov’Impact, a non-profit fintech organization specializing in sustainable economy projects.
