Communication to all our IMHI Alumni community
11/11/2024
Dear IMHI alumni,
Over the past two years, AAIMHI celebrated several major accomplishments and initiatives, and the IMHI program has gone through many changes that show the commitment of ESSEC Business School to reinforce our hospitality program and hospitality more generally in its curricula.
In September 2023, the ESSEC management nominated Michail Toanoglou as Professor of Management Practice (PMP) & IMHI Academic Director. In addition and at the same time, our fellow alumnus Manuel Heurteux, IMHI 2015, was appointed Executive Director of IMHI, in addition to his missions as a Hospitality Lecturer for the program and Head of the IMHI F&B Concentration he initiated in 2021.
In only one year, their efforts paid off with a significant increase in students admitted to the program (from 37 to 69), as well as the percentage of international students. Moreover, in 2024, IMHI will be available as a one-year program again. This will allow undergrad students and young professionals with a strong background to join this “advanced track” upon validation of the jury and program directors.
As a continuity, our very own Johanna Wagner, IMHI 2013 and Secretary of the AAIMHI board, is continuing her important connection with the program and handling all corporate relations and head of the Sustainability Concentration.
To add to the team, the program still has their administrative force with Sabrine Amira BENMANSOUR as the IMHI Program Coordinator and Sandrine Himbert, in charge of Academic Affairs. Both are on campus, in the IMHI offices at the Galion.
Finally, the role of Heads of concentration is maintained with 6 seasoned professionals dedicated to offer activities and networking opportunities related to their concentration to enrolled students as well as Industry Leaders Conferences to all students. This organization became a true differentiation factor for the program.
While we focus on keeping IMHI a key element of the university, the program has integrated the ESSEC Business School environment more than before. As the educational system shifts, integrating ESSEC has the advantage that the program can now fully benefit from the school resources, with the various existing initiatives, departments and services.
The full team of the Career Service Center at ESSEC, in charge of recruiting students, finding placements, coaching, etc is available for IMHI students. To be certain that the objectives of our program are met, the ESSEC leadership nominated an IMHI alumna, Anne Stalmach (IMHI 2015) as the Director of Career Services a couple of years ago. Marc Chapman delivers career services workshops to IMHI students while Marjorie Haugou supports students in the apprenticeship track..
Should you wish to hire a young graduate or alumni, you can post your job offers here: ESSEC JOBS
The Alumni Association (AAIMHI) has been in direct and exclusive connection with the ESSEC Business School team in many ways:
- Monika Moser (IMHI 2010 and AAIMHI President since 2021), has annual meetings with ESSEC Business School President Vincenzo Vinzi, to discuss important topics regarding our program and other changes happening on campus. Any concerns have been immediately addressed.
- Monika has regular discussions with Aarti Ramaswami,Vice President of ESSEC Business School and Dean of Pre-Experience Programs (such as IMHI), who is very involved and interested in keeping our program relevant
- Michail and Manuel are systematically invited to our AAIMHI events and are always present and available for our alumni
- Johanna is able to raise concerns, identify opportunities and ask questions at the intersection of alumni relations and corporate relations both to the program directors and within the AAIMHI Board
- The board of AAIMHI is part of the annual jury of admissions of the new IMHI students
- The board of AAIMHI attends every year the introduction day of the incoming IMHI class to connect with the new students, explain the importance of the alumni association and invite them to exchange with our alumni
- The AAIMHI board is always present at the Annual IMHI Job Fair, organised by the students.
As for our Alumni Association, we have many accomplishments to celebrate:
AAIMHI and ESSEC Alumni have signed a Memorandum of Understanding between our associations, in order to collaborate, share forces and support each other, nevertheless keep the independence of our 40 year old association. Note that for the 65.000 alumni of ESSEC, only two programs have independent and registered non profit organizations.
The MOU guarantees AAIMHI a yearly revenue to operate without conditions, even though the payment of annual dues of the alumni of our program is extremely low.
The President of the AAIMHI has a perpetual seat at the ESSEC Alumni Board of Directors, to ensure that our interests are met. Monika Moser, current President of AAIMHI has actively participated in all board decisions since 2022.
In May 2023, AAIMHI marked the 40th anniversary of the program with a series of conferences followed by a grand event at the Musée des Arts Forains in Paris. This gathering brought together approximately 350 participants, offering alumni the chance to reconnect and celebrate the program's legacy and evolution through a memorable gala evening.
The association strengthened its commitment to diversity with the launch of the "Divers’IMHI" scholarship initiative, aimed at supporting international students from underrepresented backgrounds.
The first Divers'IMHI scholarship was created through a generous contribution from Ramsay Rankoussy, an IMHI Class of 2011 graduate. Established in 2022, this scholarship promotes diversity among international students enrolled in the IMHI program by providing financial support to students from diverse regions or cultural groups.
The first recipient, Isabella Alberti from Venezuela, is part of the Class of 2024.
In the upcoming years, three scholarships are planned to be awarded:
- “Pierre Innocenti Fund” by alumni of class 2001 in memory of their colleague who lost his life in the Bataclan attacks in 2015.
- Jean Baptiste Recher and Chinmai Sharma fund
- NEWH and Hyatt fund
Information shared previously:
6. The AAIMHI Mentorship program to support IMHI students as they’re becoming young graduates was launched in 2022 and will be reactivated in 2025 after a year of transition.
7. Regular Networking Events: Monthly "get-togethers"and events in Paris and meetings in other major cities (such as London, Singapore and Dubai) have strengthened the network and connections among alumni. These events bring together 30 to 100 participants each month in iconic locations within the hospitality sector. In Paris, most get-togethers are held in venues managed or operated by one of our alumni.
8. Nomination of IMHI Ambassadors in Dubai, Singapore, New York, India, Spain, Lebanon, London and Geneva. The ambassadors work closely with the AAIMHI board and the ESSEC Alumni Chapter Presidents to promote our program, meet our alumni and develop a sense of collaboration in our community. ESSEC Alumni Chapter Presidents in Hungary, Turqiye, Malaysia, Hamburg, Danemark, USA, KSA and Bahrain are in fact IMHI alumni.
What are we expecting from our Alumni in return:
Update your profile and details in the database. We are often asked for promo lists, alumni per country etc and are faced with incomprehension when the information is not accurate. Remember the saying “garbage in - garbage out”? We are unable to update your information ourselves due to data protection laws, and only you can do it here: My Contacts
Stay connected and informed. “I was not informed” is quite an impossible argument now. We communicate regularly, if not daily, through our Linkedin group (1.380 members) , Linkedin page (2.448 followers), Facebook group (1.245 members), and emailing (through ESSEC Alumni). In 2024 we launched our IMHI WhatsApp Community and already have 886 members. If you do not receive our communications, there is probably an issue with your subscription or email.

Pay your dues. We are all volunteering with immense pleasure, but having the financial resources to achieve our mission is crucial and truly motivating. In addition, we share a certain responsibility towards the entire alumni community as we are taking advantage of all their offers. Contact our treasurer Celine Cotasson, if you had paid your dues in the past as the lifetime membership is decremental of your previous contributions. https://www.essecalumni.com/page/cotisation
Be involved in our network and community by attending French and international events, participation to mentor programs, admission interviews, the AAIMHI annual general assembly (hybrid since 2021), through your financial donations to scholarships, and participation in industry leader conferences, hire students for apprenticeships or internships, hire alumni …in short, help our alumni and help our students.
