ESSEC Alumni Business Angels

Né de l'initiative d'alumni passionnés de l'ESSEC, le club ESSEC Alumni Business Angels (ESSEC BA) a vu le jour en 2011. Il réunit aujourd'hui 50 membres actifs qui investissent dans des startups à fort potentiel, principalement dans l'économie numérique, la santé et la deeptech.

Notre partenariat stratégique avec PBA

Dès 2011, ESSEC Alumni Business Angels a noué un partenariat stratégique majeur avec Paris Business Angels, l'un des réseaux d'investisseurs individuels les plus actifs et reconnus de France.

Ce rapprochement s'est imposé naturellement : PBA partage nos exigences d'ambition, d'excellence et de bienveillance. Concrètement, la communauté ESSEC BA se fond avec la communauté PBA : les méthodes, processus, réunions sont communes, nous agissons en synergie directe. Aujourd'hui, nos 50 investisseurs ESSEC BA forment un quart de la communauté PBA (qui compte 200 membres) et 5 ESSEC font partie de la gouvernance (sur 14 membres au Board).

En parallèle de cette dynamique commune, ESSEC BA continue d'offrir des opportunités exclusives et un accompagnement sur-mesure réservés à ses membres.

Ce que nous investissons, et comment

Nous intervenons au stade d'amorçage — généralement entre un et trois ans après la création de la startup — avec des tickets de 200 k€ à 1 M€ apportés collectivement par nos membres.

Au-delà du capital : conseils stratégiques, participation aux comités de suivi, mobilisation de BA Advisors experts du secteur — jusqu'à la sortie.

Notre communauté

Des alumni qui s'investissent, pas seulement qui financent

Cadres dirigeants, entrepreneurs aguerris, experts sectoriels — de 30 à 80 ans, réunis par une même conviction : investir dans l'innovation se fait à plusieurs, pas seul derrière un chèque. Chaque mois, les membres se retrouvent à la Maison des ESSEC pour des pitchs de startups sélectionnées, et forment entre deux sessions les comités de suivi.

Au-delà de PBA, le club mentore aussi directement les startups issues des deux incubateurs de l'écosystème ESSEC — incubateur étudiants à Cergy, incubateur alumni à Station F — en amont de toute levée de fonds : cadrage du projet, coaching go-to-market, retours d'expérience, mise en réseau.

Ce que vous y gagnez

L'expérience de business angel, à chaque étape de votre carrière

Devenir business angel, c'est un métier à part entière : écouter des pitchs tous les quinze jours, mener des due diligences en équipe, négocier augmentations de capital et pactes d'associés, siéger dans des comités stratégiques — avec le support d'une équipe de permanents professionnelle et, à la sortie, de belles perspectives de multiples.

Comment devenir membre

• Être Alumni ESSEC, cotisation à jour.
• Candidater en contactant l'un des co-présidents ESSEC BA.
• Participer, gratuitement et sans engagement, à une session découverte (séance de pitch) PBA.
• T'engager à investir 20 k€ minimum par an et 10 k€ minimum par ticket — déductions fiscales possibles soit à l'entrée (déduction de l'IRPP à hauteur de 18 à 50 % dans la limite annuelle de 50 k€ pour une personne seule), soit à la sortie en investissant via son PEA ou son PEA-PME. Le seuil d'investissement minimum est abaissé à 10 k€/an et 5 k€/ticket pour les jeunes actifs de moins de 35 ans, avec au moins 5 ans d'expérience.
• Si tu es convaincu(e), remplis le dossier d'adhésion et l'accord de confidentialité (nous te fournirons les liens), et règle les cotisations annuelles — côté ESSEC BA (100 €) et côté PBA (600 €).
• Tu ne seras pas seul(e) ; nous t'offrons accueil, formation, témoignages, parrainage entre ESSEC…

ESSEC Alumni Business Angels

Born from the initiative of passionate ESSEC alumni, the ESSEC Alumni Business Angels (ESSEC BA) club was established in 2011. Today, it brings together 50 active members who invest in high-potential startups, primarily in the digital economy, healthcare, and deeptech sectors.

Our Strategic Partnership with PBA

In 2011, ESSEC Alumni Business Angels established a major strategic partnership with Paris Business Angels (PBA), one of the most active and recognized angel investor networks in France.

This alliance was a natural fit: PBA shares our standards of ambition, excellence, and benevolence. In practice, the ESSEC BA community seamlessly integrates with the PBA community: shared methods, processes, and meetings allow us to act in direct synergy. Today, our 50 ESSEC BA investors represent a quarter of the PBA community (which totals 200 members), and 5 ESSEC alumni serve on governance (out of 14 Board members).

In parallel with this joint momentum, ESSEC BA continues to offer exclusive opportunities and tailored support reserved specifically for its members.

Our mission

What we invest, and how we step in at the seed stage — typically between one and three years after startup creation — with funding tickets ranging from €200k to €1M provided collectively by our members. Beyond Capital: Strategic advice, participation in advisory committees, and mobilization of sector-expert BA Advisors — all the way through to exit.

Executive leaders, seasoned entrepreneurs, and sector experts aged 30 to 80 are united by a shared conviction: investing in innovation is done together, not alone behind a check. Every month, members gather at the Maison des ESSEC for selected startup pitch sessions and form advisory committees between sessions.

Beyond PBA, the club directly mentors startups emerging from both ESSEC incubators — the student incubator in Cergy and the alumni incubator at Station F — ahead of any fundraising: project scope definition, go-to-market coaching, experience sharing, and networking.

What You Gain

The business angel experience at every stage of your career

Becoming a business angel is a distinct role: listening to bi-weekly pitches, conducting team due diligence, negotiating capital increases and shareholder agreements, sitting on strategic boards — with the backing of a professional dedicated team and strong potential exit returns.

How to become a member

- Be an ESSEC alumni with up-to-date membership dues.

- Apply by contacting one of the ESSEC BA co-presidents.

- Attend a free, non-binding discovery session (pitch night) with PBA.

- Commit to investing a minimum of €20k/year and €10k/ticket — tax deductions available either upfront (income tax reduction of 18% to 50% up to €50k for an individual) or upon exit by investing via a PEA or PEA-PME account. Minimum thresholds are reduced to €10k/year and €5k/ticket for young professionals under 35 with at least 5 years of experience.

- If you are convinced, complete the membership application and non-disclosure agreement (NDA links will be provided), and pay the annual dues — for ESSEC BA (€100) and PBA (€600).

Our Mission
We intervene at the seed stage, typically between one and three years after a start-up is created—at that pivotal moment when first customers arrive and strategic choices are solidified.
Here’s what we bring to the table:

• Strategic advice and support to founders as part of the management committee.

Each start-up, selected after a 10-minute initial pitch, benefits from the expertise of several reviewing members before pitching at a plenary session. If convinced, we proceed to the closing phase: shareholders’ agreement, strategic committee involvement, and active support.

Beyond our core mission with start-ups, we align with ESSEC’s Transcend strategy to:
