Oddbox: The Recipe for Progress

Entrepreneurs

Emilie Vanpoperinghe (E04), settled in the UK and founded Oddbox, which collects unsold fruit and vegetables from producers and delivers them to engaged consumers.

"40% of what we produce globally is never consumed, which exerts considerable pressure on the environment. Food waste generates 10% of greenhouse gases and 1 kilo of that waste in a landfill creates the same quantity of CO2 as 25,000 plastic bottles."

To help reduce this vast amount of waste, Oddbox buys the surplus and ‘ugly’ fruit and vegetables rejected by standard distribution channels directly from producers. "We then create hampers of varied produce which we deliver to our community of anti-waste customers throughout most of the UK".

The company delivers more than 5 million hampers annually, saving over 30,000 tonnes of produce. ‘At the same time, we’re also making it easier to have a healthy and balanced diet.’ Fresh produce to fight against climate change...it makes sense, as they say!
