ESSEC Business School News

Did you know? ESSEC Alumni play a substantial role in ESSEC group governance - in particular through the appointment of graduates to the school’s Supervisory Board. Clémentine Baldon (E99) has just been appointed for the 2022-2025 term.

Clémentine Baldon is a lawyer. She began her career in corporate law with the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (London), then moved successively to Dentons, Weil Gotshal & Manges, and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. She joined Bouygues Télécom next, as Deputy Legal Counsel in competition and compliance. At the same time, she taught law at ESSEC. In 2018, she decided to create her own practice, Baldon Avocats, to serve sustainability on social, economic and ecological levels. She specialises in European regulation (health standards, pesticides, chemical products or deforestation, etc.), the fight against greenwashing, animal protection and well-being, duty of care and corporate non-financial reporting, the responsibility of multi-nationals, environmental law and human rights. In particular, she represented the Nicolas Hulot Foundation in the highly publicised Case of the Century (see our interview).

On the ESSEC Supervisory Board, she is taking over from  Amélie Oudéa-Castéra (E02), who gave up her seat further to her appointment as French Minister for Sports and the Olympic & Paralympic Games. She joins Pierre-André de Chalendar (E79), President of Saint-Gobain and the think-tank La Fabrique de l'Industrie; Benoît Coquart (E95), CEO of Legrand; Béatrice Kosowski (E87), Managing Director of IBM France, and Olivier Cantet (E87), President of ESSEC Alumni.

How does the governance of the ESSEC Group work?

Affiliated to the Paris-Ile-de-France Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR), ESSEC has a governance structure associating members of the ESSEC community (Alumni, students, professors, staff), as well as representatives of the CCIR and stakeholders from the world of business. ESSEC Alumni plays a key statutory role through membership on the Board of Trustees, the Supervisory Board and the General Assembly. This significant engagement on the part of Alumni in the governance of the school is specific to ESSEC. It demonstrates the important responsibility of the community in supporting the school and its reputation.
