ESSEC ALUMNI GENERAL ASSEMBLY

JUNE 28TH 2023

The ESSEC Alumni General Assembly took place on Wednesday 28th June 2022. It gathered more than 200 people at the Institut Catholique de Paris and online, via our live broadcast.

This event was the opportunity to present the activity report 2022, the annual accounts report as well as the auditor's report for the year 2022.

2022: a record year

For the 2ᵉ year in a row, the number of cumulative beneficiaries of our services (27 000 beneficiaries, +41% vs 2021) has risen sharply, above the ambitious target (23,000).

The Career service saw a slight drop in requests, as the job market was more favourable than in 2021 (5,633, -1%). In addition, the Lifelong Learning offer has been enhanced with new premium partnerships offered to lifetime members: Edflex, an online training platform, and Assimil for language learning.

Our community

The activity of our communities intensified in 2022: 571 events organized in France and abroad (+22%, vs 2021) with 18,000 participants (+67%, vs 2021). The end of the Covid restrictions has enabled us to return to face-to-face events for the most part (70% of events).

🇫🇷 In France, we see a sharp increase in the number of participants (340 events, up 13% on 2021). The number of participants will also increase mechanically (12,383 participants, +38% vs. 2021), with an absence rate of only 16% in 2022 (vs. 50% in 2021).

🌍 Internationally, the momentum is growing, with a 48% increase in the number of events organized (231 events) and a continuing rise in the number of participants, to 5,560 (+39% vs 2021).

🎒 Among students, overall use of our services fell slightly in 2021-2022 (-4%), as requests were less pressing than during the Covid turmoil of the previous academic year. On the other hand, the 2022-2023 academic year will once again see a sharp rise in the number of students benefiting from our services, with several formats proving highly successful : Alumni Talks (Dior, BCG, JP Morgan…), international Meet & Discusses and Network masterclasses.

ESSEC Alumni Day (1st edition)

The first edition of ESSEC Alumni Day was held on October 13th. This unique event rallied the alumni community worldwide for a 12-hour programme around a specific theme : corporate diversity and inclusion. This format alternated online plenary sessions and in-person events. From Singapore to New York, Lille, Marseille and others, no fewer than 1,300 alumni came together. The closing ceremony took place in Paris, in the presence of Clara Chappaz (E12), Managing Director of La French Tech, and Élisabeth Moreno (EXEC MBA 06).

ESSEC Alumni commits to environmental and social Transition

We ran a survey on environmental and social transition in July 2022, which 1,200 graduates responded to. The aim was to assess their commitment and expectations in this area. We developed a roadmap for environmental and social transition. The roadmap is structured around three key steps for alumni: develop awareness, become an actor in your professional sphere and join a positive-impact collective.

In 2022, a strengthened collective philanthropy dynamic

🎒The solidarity fund, created and fed by ESSEC Alumni, has provided financial assistance to students in difficult situations, particularly due to Covid and inflation.

In November 2022, the Giving Tuesday campaign was dedicated to social grants. ESSEC Alumni undertook to triple the €125,000 in donations collected from alumni to amplify the impact of their generosity. In total, €375,200 was donated to the ESSEC Foundation for student grants.

🇺🇦 As soon as the war in Ukraine broke out, ESSEC Alumni and the School set up a fundraising campaign for the United Nations Refugee Agency, raising €200,000 in donations.

Meanwhile, the Association's clubs and chapters multiplied their initiatives: a concert in aid of a children's hospital in Kiev, sales of rare wines, conferences, prayers for peace, etc. Our Careers Department also helped alumni from Ukraine to find jobs in Europe.

A new Maison des ESSEC

Our Maison des ESSEC moves to Avenue de Friedland in Paris’ 8th arrondissement, a stone’s throw from the RER A line which connects us to the School.

The MDE is a living place for students and graduates. It will be hosting events from October onwards.

An ESSEC incubator at Station F

In early 2023, ESSEC Alumni and ESSEC launched a new incubator at Station F: the world's largest start-up campus. The aim is to support start-ups with ambitious, high-impact projects founded by graduates. Working closely with CentraleSupélec's 21st accelerator, this incubator will offer :

  • tailor-made support
  • a mentoring programme
  • expert advice
  • remote support available

This incubator will complement our range of services dedicated to entrepreneurs: Slack (1,250 members), Zoom Café, newsletter, mentoring, afterworks and events, including the ESSEC Founders Day competition co-organised with ESSEC Ventures.
