citizenM: Travelling the Other Way

Entrepreneurs

08.29.2019

In 2005, Michael Levie (H83) and Rattan Chadha launched citizenM, a shiny new breed of hotels providing affordable luxury to modern travellers in the world’s most exciting cities.

Rather than strictly employing staff from hospitality backgrounds, Michael Levie and Rattan Chadha set out to fill their hotels with a diverse array of characters, otherwise known as ambassadors. Each of them learns the language and principles of citizenM through a special training programme. The hotel chain’s value proposition, which also incorporates a successful lifestyle brand generating upscale revenues, smart designs, tech-based operations and standardised construction has resulted in higher profitability per square meter than any competitor. There are now 14 citizenM hotels in operation worldwide. By 2020, they aim to have 40 properties across the globe.
